The mission of Genopets is to make being active more fun and rewarding. Your Genopet — a personalized digital creature made in your spiritual likeness — is like a digital accountability buddy, designed to reward you for parking at the back of the parking lot or taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

So, whether you are new to the Genopets community or are a long-time supporter, here are the top 5 things you need to know before you start playing.

1. Genopets is Free To Play

You read that right. You don’t need to purchase an asset like other Web3 games. Instead, you’ll summon a baby Genopet FOR FREE at the start of the game. Each Genopet hatches as a stage 1, level 1 in-game asset — meaning no wallet is required.

Now, you may be scratching your head, thinking, “But I thought I heard a Genopet is an NFT?” That is both true and untrue. How? A Genopet hatches as an in-game asset, but once you’ve leveled it up, you can pull it out of the game and mint it into an NFT to sell on Marketplaces.

It has not yet been announced what level/stage a Genopet must reach before it can be minted into an NFT

If you want a later-stage Genopet, you can purchase Genesis Genopets NFTs on Magic Eden today. These are a special collection of 3,218 Genopets hatched by early adopters before the app was released — making them one of the rarest NFTs in the Genoverse. They hatched as stage 4 level 22 and receive a 10% Energy Bonus when Banking steps. Wanna learn more about the benefits of Genesis Genopets? Check this out ⬇️

2. Your Steps = In-Game Energy

A fundamental part of Genopets is that your real-world steps count as in-game Energy. How does this happen?

Our app tracks your daily steps in the background, in the same way, an Apple watch or Fitbit does. There is no need to open the app or press “start” before the activity like other games requires, the game tracks your steps all day — walking at the mall, going to the gym, etc. your Genopet is by your side. It’s not about how far or how much you run; it’s about being consistent every day.

Once banked, the steps will be converted to Energy, the fuel to your gameplay. Energy is used for everything, including leveling upbattling, and Harvesting KI Token.

3. Leveling Up is Crucial

Leveling up your Genopet matters if you want to be the top dog. As Genopets level up and evolve, their Energy conversion gets better — meaning your steps will be worth more Energy, and you can do more in-game for the same amount of walking.

If you never want to fret about the decision between having energy to battle and energy to Harvest KI, you’ll want to level up as quickly as possible.

4. Want To Earn? Buy A Habitat

To earn while playing, you’ll need a Habitat. Habitats are NFTs, so you’ll need to connect your wallet to your Genopets account on Mainframe to bring them into the mobile game. Once you do that, you’ll be able to use your Energy to Harvest KI Token daily. Your KI Cap will be dependent on what level Habitat you have. Check out the chart below to see the costs and benefits of each level.

Owning a Habitat has other benefits as well — you’ll also be able to Refine Crystals, Craft Items, and Terraform new Habitats. You can then use these for your own gameplay or sell them to other players on Magic Eden.

If you so choose, you can also rent out your Habitat to future Alchemists and Harvesters who will pay you for use of your Habitat. To learn more, click here or check out this video.

5. Use Augments to Increase Genopet Rarity

Want to increase your Genopet’s rarity? Craft Augments like Horns, Tails, and Wings and add them to your pet with Augmentation.

Like other craftable items, Augments have rarity levels associated with them. Rarity denotes an item’s intrinsic value, as determined by uncommonness and quality; rarer items exist in fewer quantities and are better versions of their less rare counterparts.

And not only will Augments allow you to personalize your pet, but they will also impact your Genopet’s Battle Stats and moves in the future. Want to learn more about the benefits of Augmentation? Read here.

Hopefully, after reading this article, you’re uber-excited to start playing and have a better understanding of the basics of Genopets. We are currently in Phase II of Whitelist Beta, which means an invite code is needed to get into the game. But don’t worry; there are multiple ways to get invited.

We can’t wait to see you in the Genoverse!
